Tour Down Under - Adelaide - 24- 25 Jan 09
Gday Everyone,
Howie and I had a wonderful time in SA and thoroughly enjoyed our very short trip to Adelaide. We were able to catch up with Ben & Sarah, Stephen Adele Dee, Macy & Jobe and that was great to see the next generation of Kempsters, all growing up. I have a stax of great photos of the kids and will load them up tomorrow on the blog, also will burn copies for Ben, Steven & U Joe. We went to the cycling on the sunday which was a street circuit around Adelaides' very picturesque gardens, cricket grounds and tennis centre. We got into the city nice and early and got to see the riders getting prepared for the last stage of racing, a 90km 20 laps of the 4.5km cicuit. We situated ourselves in the shade on the straight for the first hour and then cruised around the circuit, getting to see the riders come around corners SOOO fast it was unreal. They ride so fast in the peloton and at one stage i was crouched down low taking pictures and the riders came around the sweeping bend towards me very fast and through the zoom lens i recoiled backwards with fear of being hit, or run over..it was pretty funny but thats how close we were.
I got to see Lance Armstrong and took photos of him during the race and also right before the race he quickly rode to the public toilet was in and out and back to the start line...but i got some snaps of him then (not in the loo!!). Some of the photos are really good and as the peloton are coming down the hill on Montefiore street, it was great to get the big long line of riders.
Anyway back to work now and I will post the photos later tomorrow.
